Please allow us to introduce “Mademoiselle Royale.” This petite Georgian Wooden artisan doll packs abundant charm into her small size and has quickly become a favorite amongst our doll sewing and collecting community. She is expertly crafted by the esteemed doll artist, Karen Clohessy, of Perth, Western Australia, while the mold used to create her was adapted from an antique wooden example doll from the Grovian Doll Museum Collection.

Cast in a high-quality resin, her face features beautiful modeling and painting, as well as extensive hand work to create her expressive features. Her painted-brown eyes are framed by delicately arched, stippled brows. Her wig, of natural flax, is handmade by Michael Canadas and crafted with the styling details that are hallmarks of period hairstyles. Each wig is unique, non-removable, and will present variations in style. Her body features a head and torso as one, and true to an original doll of this era, her body features jointed upper legs and knees, and her stuffed cotton upper arms attach to the shoulders and terminate in “carved,” graceful, forked hands.

Here, Mademoiselle Royale wears a Colonial-era polonaise gown designed by Michael Canadas and expertly sewn by our in-house artisans. The gown features a fitted bodice, three-quarter length sleeves trimmed in crocheted lace and a lavish bustle back. Fine cotton with a delicate indienne motif print in a palette of vivid pink, blue and rich brown has been chosen for this confection-like piece. The gown is worn over a petticoat and stomacher in our custom silk in a vivid punch pink hue and is embellished in cerise gimp trim and cream crocheted lace. Cream stockings and wrapped silk shoes complete the classic presentation.
