The Countess of Leicester, by Alicia and Charles Carver
The Countess of Leicester, by Alicia and Charles Carver
We are pleased to present “The Countess of Leicester” from the talented artisan duo Alicia and Charles Carver. The Countess is based on one of Queen Victoria’s beloved wooden dolls and was based on a character from a ballet entitled “Kenilworth” that captured the imagination of the young princess. Meticulously researched and masterfully rendered by the Carvers, this little lady has all of the features of an antique wooden Grodner Tal including a sweetly expressive face with brown eyes, petal pink cheeks, a tiny rose hued mouth and pierced ears.
Her exquisite hairstyle features delicate face framing curls and a head of glossy black hair and is topped with a crown of gold lace on a base of iridescent crystals. On a jointed wooden body with graceful hands and slender legs terminating in gold, slipper style shoes, she wears a diaphanous gown of white silk with leg-of-mutton sleeves and gold embroidery details throughout. A pink silk cape with green vine embroidery completes her costume. She wears a gold tone cross suspended on a doubled strand of pearl style beads. She comes complete with original box, wooden tag and picture card.
